Formula One: Monza 2010

The weekend is here and so is the next race in the F1 Calender, Monza!

Formula 1 Gran Premio Santander d’Italia is our stage which is set for Hamilton, Webber, Button, Vettel and alonso to battle it out as the race for the championship continues.

Monza has played host to the GP since 1922 and has always been a battle ground for the greats such as Aryton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Jackie Stewart and Michael Schumacher.

Monza is an anti-clockwise track, is 5.793km in length and the F1 race consists of 53 laps.

Rubens Barrichello set the fasted lap in 2004 with a time of 1:21.046

Monza is classed as a high speed circuit because of its long straights so many teams run less downforce than most other tracks.

McLaren chief engineer Tim Goss said “Monza will be a strong circuit for us, we have a very aerodynamically efficient car so we think we have a good chance of occupying the front row and challenging for the race win.”

Meanwhile Lewis Hamilton is eager to claim his first win at monza saying “I’ve made no secret of my wish to win this race. Monza is an incredible circuit – full of history and stories from the past. It has a special feeling in the air that you don’t find anywhere else in the world. It’s a circuit that inspires you to race at your limit, and I’ll be pushing hard all weekend.”

Hamilton is leading the Drivers Championship by 3 points after his win in Belgium.

Jenson Button still sounds motivated and optimistic about winning the championship saying “I’m still going into every practice session, qualifying and race with the same hope I can win that race,” whose relaxed style has led some to question his application.

“I know I’m just as passionate about it now as I was last year, and that’s because I don’t think there is a driver here who works any harder than me.”

Mark Webber told BBC Three Counties Radio: “It’s probably not the track we’d choose to go and have 17 races at, but we don’t, we have one. “We can still get some good points there and take the fight to the other fast teams.”

Im looking forward to this race weekend as the battle heats up, i support McLaren, i’d prefer Jenson Button to win but Lewis Hamilton deserves my support aswell, his passion and need to go faster in my opinion gives him the edge over other drivers, and this passion is what spirited-driving is all about.

I hope to see Vettel battling it out with Webber again as its always entertaining and it keeps him away from Button (Who he took out in Belgium,Bad times).

Qualifying starts at 12:10pm Saturday and Coverage of the race starts at the same time sunday on BBC1

Enjoy..

MINI Countryman WRC

The new MINI Countryman World Rally Car completed its first shakedown at Prodrive’s private UK stage in Warwickshire.

The car traveled mostly on tarmac but also did a few kilometres on loose surfaces.

Prodrive’s technical director David Lapworth said ““As with any totally new car, it is vital to take time to ensure all the systems are working as intended before embarking on a week long gravel test.”

The car is now bound for Portugal where Marcus Gronholm is expected to test the MINI on gravel stages.

Personally, I am extremely happy that MINI are coming back into the WRC. After most of the big manufacturers pulled out of the sport a couple years back, we need all the new cars we can get to make The World Rally Championship as entertaining as it once was.

Welcome back  MINI.

Car News 06.09.2010

Police Crash Evo

Police ceased the Mitsubishi Lancer evo for erratic driving from a 23 year old on suspicion of drink driving.

Two offices proceeded to take the car to be impounded, but ended up smashing through two front gardens.

In a statement police chief said “I can assure the local community that this incident will be rigorously investigated. I would like to apologise to residents if this incident has caused any problems or inconvenience.”

Funny how a drunk driver at least managed to keep the car on the road, i think the police should apologise to car lovers everywhere for destroying one of our truely loved rally machines…

Ferrari Recall 458 Italia

1,248 ferrari 458′s have been recalled due to the supercar catching fire.

A spokesperson for ferrari said “When the car is driven hard [so the exhaust is hot] in high ambient temperatures, the adhesive used in the wheelarch assembly can overheat and allow the heat shields to move around. In extreme cases, they touch the exhaust and the adhesive can begin to smoke and even potentially catch fire.”

Ferrari technicians claim to have a solution to the problem by replacing the ‘flammable’ adhesive with mechanical fasteners free of charge.

Personally i think thats the least they could do, imagine buying the car of your dreams and catching fire on a flying lap round Nurburgring! Not only would it nearly kill you, you’d also look like an ametuer..

BBC Lose Court Battle, Stig Revealed

Londons high court did not grant the BBC an injunction which would have stopped the puplication of racing driver… Ben Collins (dale said it was him years ago) Biography, revealing himself as The Stig.

Various statements have been made, all of which are boring except this one from James May “Obviously I’m now going to have to take some legal action of my own, because I have been the Stig for the past seven years, and I don’t know who this bloke is, who’s mincing around in the High Court pretending it’s him.”

Ford Escort RS 1600

Just scanned as few pictures of my dads RS1600 from about 20-25 years ago. I guess fast fords run in the family. Ironically, a generation later and its still the same kind of cars, on the same kind of roads. Also is it just me or does the RS1600 and Fiesta ST looking like they would put on a awesome race against each other?
